Data Backup: Backup And Recovery
June 21st, 2008Data protection is an important consideration for any business. Client information, customer accounting, and financial information are what make your company run, and losing that data can cripple your business. Backing up your data prevents the kind of meltdowns that an unprepared company is doomed to face.
Comprehensive Data Protection
The best way to insure your critical information is in good hands is to back it up onto a secondary network or hard drive. This system should run independently of your primary system so that any corruptions that occur in one do not transfer to the other. The actual data transfer can be handled in a number of different ways.
You can set your backup options to monitor system activity and continually backup data, or you can set it to operate on a schedule so that it does not drain as much bandwidth or system resources. The only drawback to the schedule option is that there might be a problem in the middle of schedule cycle and you risk losing some data, but this is minimal.
Recovering data from the backup is simple. You can connect the backup directly to the network and set it to reinstall and files or programs that might have been corrupted or lost to a system failure. The process can take a few minutes or a few hours depending on how much data is needed to fully recover.
